[팩트인뉴스= Dongsu Kim] United States President Donald Trump claimed on Monday that the Democrats' resolution to interview his longtime fixer on the same day as his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have contributed to the failure of the summit between the two nations.

Reuters reports Trump took on to Twitter to criticize the opposing party's decision, saying: “For the Democrats to interview in open hearings a convicted liar & fraudster, at the same time as the very important Nuclear Summit with North Korea, is perhaps a new low in American politics and may have contributed to the ‘walk.,’” referring to the Republican president's decision to abolish from what he earlier said was a bad agreement with Kim. He added that the Democrats' move was "never done" when a US leader is overseas.

Last week, Trump and Kim met for the second time in Hanoi, Vietnam in an effort to discuss a deal that would get North Korea to surrender some of its nuclear weapons arsenal in exchange of easing some sanctions imposed on the isolated island.

At the same time as the Trump-Kim meeting, the US president's former aide—lawyer Michael Cohen—made a testimony before the US House of Representatives’ Oversight Committee. According to Reuters, Cohen accused Trump of ordering his personal attorney to come up with threats for him about 500 times over the last 10 years.

When asked regarding his opinion about the former aide's testimony at a press conference on Thursday in the Vietnam capital, following his abrupt decision to end the meeting with Kim early, Trump said the allegations were "incorrect" and even criticized the Democrat-led Congress' decision to execute the hearing while he was not in the country.

The Republican president said he tried to "watch as much as I could," although he was not able to watch too much due to his busy schedule, adding: "but I think having a fake hearing like that and having it in the middle of this very important summit is really a terrible thing.”

로이터 통신은 트럼프가 트위터를 통해 "민주당이 북한과의 정상 회담과 동시에 공개 변론에서 거짓말쟁이와 인터뷰하는 것은 아마도 미국 정치의 새로운 저류일 것이며, 재범에 기여하는 것"이라고 비난했다. 그는 미국의 지도자가 해외에 있을 때 민주당의 움직임은 "절대로 이루어지지 않았다"라고 덧붙였다.

지난날 트럼프 대통령과 김 위원장은 북한이 고립된 섬에 부과된 일부 제재를 완화하는 대가로 일부 핵무기를 포기하도록 하는 협상을 논의하기 위해 베트남 하노이에서 두 번째로 만났다.

트럼프-김 위원과 미 대통령의 전 보좌관인 마이클 코헨은 미 하원 감독위원회에 출석했다. 로이터 통신에 따르면 코헨은 지난 10년간 트럼프 개인 변호사가 트럼프 자신을 위해 500여 차례 협박하도록 지시했다고 비난했다.
